SEASONAL LIVING AT

ARCADIAN REVIVAL

June

So much of seasonal living at Arcadian Revival thrives with whatever happens to be blooming in our gardens. For June, this means it is peony season, another one of my absolute favorite times in our gardens. Luckily for me, we successfully transplanted a handful of my grandmother’s heirloom varieties that she planted nearly seventy-five years ago. In my mind, the month of June is filled with creams, pinks, deep magentas and reds through flowers, berries, and capped on both ends with Memorial Day and the Fourth of July trickling into this summer month.

June is a strong contender for the month that most allures us outside early before breakfast to check the gardens, run barefoot a bit, to water our hanging baskets. We try to keep up with our incredibly hearty chives by cutting a few from our kitchen garden to add to our breakfast dish. It’s almost always warm and we comfortably move from the indoors to our back porch that now becomes the most commonplace area in our home to read, relax, share a meal, take a nap.

June means the beginning of berry season too. Picking berries and making them into pies especially, and jams too. Strawberry season almost always hits its stride in time for Father’s Day, a day where we’ve found our stride as a family with an annual Father’s Day hike. At the end of our country road, the local historical society hosts a Father’s Day Strawberry Shortcake Social, where we enjoy homemade strawberry shortcake back home together on the porch and perhaps fire up the grill.
